At St Dominic Savio, we believe that every child’s viewpoint is important and should be heard. Our Pupil Voice initiative allows children to actively contribute to the development of their school environment through a variety of leadership roles.
One of the key ways we gather pupil feedback is through subject-based meetings. Each term, children from all year groups, from Reception through to Year 6, come together to meet with the subject leader for each area of the curriculum. For example, in PE, children from across the school are represented, ensuring that every voice is heard.
During these meetings, children share their experiences, knowledge, and work (where appropriate), offering their insights into the curriculum. They discuss what they enjoy, what they feel works well, and suggest areas for improvement. These discussions not only allow us to celebrate successes but also give us the opportunity to reflect on how we can make the curriculum even better.
In addition to curriculum feedback, children are also asked about safeguarding and behaviour within the school. This helps ensure that our school is a safe, welcoming environment for everyone and allows the children to express their thoughts on how we can continue to foster a positive school culture.
These termly meetings are an essential part of our school’s improvement process. Subject leaders find them invaluable when creating action plans and driving forward initiatives that will benefit all students.
At St Dominic Savio, Pupil Voice is not just about listening – it’s about using children’s ideas and feedback to make meaningful changes that help our school grow and thrive.
